When rest feels impossible
Sometimes, even when you finally sit down or go to bed, your body and mind just don’t switch off. You might feel wired, restless, or like you can’t truly relax. This isn’t laziness or weakness - it’s often how your nervous system responds to stress or past trauma.

When your body is in “on” mode too much of the time, it can make resting feel uncomfortable or even impossible. You might notice tension, racing thoughts, or a sense of being “stuck” even when you’re trying to unwind. Recognising this is the first step toward finding real rest.

Counselling can help you learn simple tools to support your nervous system and make rest feel possible. Practices like a brief body scan, slow breathing, or grounding exercises can help you notice your body, release tension, and slowly feel safer in your own skin. Small, consistent moments of pause make a real difference over time.

Healing isn’t about flipping a switch and instantly feeling calm. It’s about tiny steps - pausing, noticing, softening - that gradually teach your body how to relax. With guidance and practice, rest can start to feel restorative again, and you can begin to feel lighter and more in control of your energy.
