When you feel like you always need to be alert
Feeling anxious or on edge doesn't always mean that you're worrying unnecessarily. Given what you're seeing and hearing in the news - and perhaps experiencing in your own life - it makes sense that your body may be responding. You might find yourself checking your surroundings more carefully, startling more easily or struggling to completely relax.

Your nervous system is designed to notice possible danger and protect you. If you've experienced difficult or overwhelming situations in the past, it may also have become particularly good at watching for signs that something isn't safe.

The difficulty comes when your body stays on alert even when there is no immediate danger.

Being alert may help protect you.
Being alert all the time can exhaust you.

Learning to recognise when your nervous system is responding to an immediate danger - and when it may be safe enough to settle - can help you feel more in control of how you respond.

If you’d like some support learning how to do this, I offer a free 30-minute online taster session.
