When you feel emotionally disconnected
You may be moving through your days, managing responsibilities, and doing what needs to be done - but still feel emotionally distant or “not quite yourself.” It can be difficult to explain, especially when nothing obvious seems wrong on the outside, yet something feels different on the inside.

Often, this kind of emotional numbness or disconnection can happen when your nervous system has been under prolonged stress or emotional strain. Rather than feeling everything intensely, your system may begin to reduce emotional response as a way of protecting you. You might notice feeling flat, detached, or unable to access joy or interest in the way you once did.

Counselling can offer a gentle space to explore this experience without pressure to “feel more” straight away. It can help you slowly reconnect with your internal world at a pace that feels safe, using simple grounding and awareness tools to support reconnection with your body and emotions over time.

Healing is not about forcing emotions to return. It is about gradually rebuilding safety within your system so that feelings can emerge naturally again. With support, it becomes possible to feel more present, more connected, and more like yourself again
