The trauma of the “daily grind”

Sometimes there isn’t one big dramatic event that explains why you feel so tired. Life just feels heavy. Work, family, responsibilities, relationships - it can feel like you’re constantly juggling and never quite catching up. You might tell yourself you “shouldn’t” feel this drained because nothing terrible has happened. But being under steady stress for a long time can take a real toll.

Trauma isn’t only about major events. It can also be the strain of always having to cope, always being needed, or never having enough time to properly rest. When your body and mind don’t get a chance to slow down, your nervous system can stay in survival mode. That can show up as irritability, low mood, poor sleep, brain fog, or feeling emotionally numb.

You might have learned to push through, tell yourself to be grateful, or compare your struggles to others. But pain isn’t a competition. If you’re exhausted, that matters. If you’re overwhelmed, that matters. Your experience is valid even if it doesn’t look dramatic from the outside.

Counselling can give you a space to pause. A space where you don’t have to be productive or “on.” Together, we can gently explore what’s draining you and begin building small, realistic ways to help you feel steadier and more supported. You don’t have to wait until you’re at breaking point to ask for help.
