When you feel like you always have to be “on”
Perhaps you feel as though you're always “on” - watching what's happening around you, thinking ahead, staying prepared or trying to keep everything under control.

Given what you're seeing and hearing in the news - and perhaps experiencing in your own life - it makes sense that staying prepared may feel important.

When your nervous system has learnt that staying alert helps protect you, being “on” can start to feel normal. You may find yourself automatically anticipating what could happen next, keeping your guard up or finding it difficult to fully switch off, even when there is nothing you need to respond to right now.

The difficulty is that constantly being prepared takes energy. Over time, you may feel exhausted, find it difficult to be fully present or realise that even during quieter moments, part of you is still watching, thinking or preparing for what might happen next.

Being alert may help protect you.
Being alert all the time can exhaust you.

Learning to recognise when something genuinely needs your attention - and when you can safely put some of that responsibility down for a while - can create a little more room for rest, connection and simply being.

If you’d like some support learning how to do this, I offer a free 30-minute online taster session.
