When joy feels out of reach
Sometimes you look at your life and wonder why you can't enjoy it the way you used to. You may still smile, laugh, and keep up with your responsibilities, but inside everything feels a little flat. This isn't because you're ungrateful or "broken" - it's often how a nervous system responds after carrying stress or trauma for too long.

When your nervous system has spent a long time focused on surviving, it naturally pays less attention to moments of pleasure, connection, and joy. Instead, it stays alert for what might go wrong. Over time, this can leave you feeling emotionally disconnected from the things that once brought you happiness.

Counselling can help you gently reconnect with yourself and your nervous system. Rather than forcing positive thinking, healing begins by helping your body experience moments of safety. As your nervous system settles, small moments of interest, connection, and enjoyment often begin to return naturally.

Healing doesn't mean pretending everything is okay. It means creating the conditions for your nervous system to move beyond survival mode. With time, support, and gentle practice, joy doesn't have to be something you remember - it can become something you experience again.
